Blue Pirates & Kitale Hockey Club Warm-up For National League Debut Match

Another much-awaited and anticipated weekend for hockey lovers in Kenya is here with us. An action-packed weekend across all the five leagues in the KHU calendar and in various fields.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be in the National League where debutants will be battling it out to see who will be having the last laugh after the 60 minutes.

Blue Pirates will be hosting Kitale Hockey Club in the bully off of the Western Zone.

Under the watchful eye of Bramwell Lijoodi and a pool of tacticians and well-wishers and hockey enthusiasts in Kakamega, Blue Pirates will be out to kick start their campaign on a high.

Speaking to one of the team officials, the team is taking a match at a time and their prayer is that they start on a winning note and keep going as a promotion to the Super League is their target come to the end of the season.

On the other hand, Kitale under the watch of the likes of Wanyonyi is banking on a pool of experienced players and a diversity of skills set to carry maximum points back to Kitale at the end of the day.

At the same time, the lakeside team will be hosting Bungoma Farmers in the Lakeside City of Kisumu. Both teams are not new to the league and they are hoping to pull a win each.

Back to the capital, a revamped Parklands Hockey Club will be out to start their title campaign against KCA-U.

Both are hopeful that they will carry the day as they will kick off the weekend fixture.

Top Tier League

In the top tier league, it will be a varsity derby on Saturday evening as Thika Roadside USIU-A men will be battling for the bragging rights against their arch-rivals Strathmore University.

With a total of 13 matches on the table, fans in Nairobi and western Kenya will be treated to some mouthwatering hockey action.

The Kenya Hockey Union on its end is still urging the teams to encourage their supporters to keep the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols as failure to adhere to the same will lead to the ban of fans in the fields.
