Family and Friends Rodgers Ayuya and Ronald Olang’ gather to honor them.

Family and friends of former national team player Rodgers Ayuya and Ronald Olang known to his family and close friends as boss will be gathering this weekend at Kibabii University to hold a tournament in their honor. Rodgers passed on in 2017 while boss passed on 2012.

Rodgers was a lethal striker who started playing hockey while in Musingu High School. After completing high school he formed a local academy in his hood in Bungoma County where he took them to play in school tournaments. Later he joined University of Nairobi (UoN) where he played for the university team. While playing for the team, they became the 1st university side to beat Armed forces and lift the famous Vaisakhi Cup in 2007. It is from that win that he was called to play for the National team. He later joined Wazalendo Club after clearing university.

Olang or boss as they called him started playing hockey from Bungoma high school. After clearing high school, boss continued playing with Rodgers in the hood team and when he joined Kenya Science, a constituent college of UoN. Despite being a lethal defender Olang opted to just play for his college and not club hockey.

The Open tournament is an 8 aside tournament that will run from the 10th to 11th December 2022. It will entail players players both active and those who hanged their boots forming teams of 8 players each. The prize money is 30,000 for men and 20,000 for the ladies. According to the organizers they are expecting 3 teams from the neighboring country of Uganda. They constitute 2 men’s teams and 1 ladies team.
