Giles Bonnet Returns as SA Women’s Hockey Head Coach

South African Hockey on 18th March 2022 announced the appointment of Giles Bonnet back as Head Coach of the National Teams.

Bonnet returns to a role he held from 2010-2014 where he led the team into the top 10 in the world rankings as well as to a competitive adventure in the London Olympic games.

Bonnet also served in International roles for the Belgian Men, China’s men’s and women’s teams as well as the Canadian National women.

CEO of SA Hockey Marissa Langeni was glowing regarding the appointment of Bonnet:

“Giles is no stranger to SA Hockey. He oversaw a period of great success and growth for the SA Women’s Team. His commitment to the program and the growth under his tutelage was fantastic to see. We look forward to seeing the team take a step forwards under his guidance in a remarkably busy hockey calendar!”

Giles Bonnet is eagerly looking forward to the challenge that awaits him:

“South Africa is currently sitting at number 16 in the world rankings, I believe we as a country have far more potential than that. For me, it’s an exciting opportunity. I also believe with the quality of hockey on television these days, we have a major attraction for sponsors who want to help us reach the next level. It may be challenging in the short term but we will assist these young players to achieve their potential in the green and gold.”

Bonnet will hit the ground running as the SA Women have Commonwealth Games, the FIH Hockey World Cup, and the FIH Nations Cup in the next 6 months as they look to begin climbing up the world rankings once again.
