
The hockey fraternity will be gathered this weekend in Nakuru for the Betty Tioni Memorial Festival. A total of 36 teams have confirmed participation. This is the highest number of teams’ confirmation for this tournament since its inception.
Ladies
14 ladies’ teams will take part in this year’s tournament and including a girl’s school Njoro Girls. The teams include; Nakuru, MSC, KEMU Hornets, Blazers, Sherehe, Amira, Royals, DFG, Kisumu Queens, Usiu, Titans, Sliders, Njoro girls A, Njoro girls B. The teams will be in 3 pools.

32 men teams have confirmed participation and are drawn from all over the country. All the teams had confirmed participation by July 13 and no other team will be slotted to participate. 1 school side Nakuru Academy also confirmed participation. A draw was done and teams are in 8 pools. The top 16 teams will then go into a knockout stage.

The Festival was last held in 2019 and Warriors and Strathmore were the winners in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively. The tournament is in memory of Betty Tioni a former Blazers Hockey Club player who passed on February 13th, 2014 in Nakuru after a short illness.
