Nairobi, June 2nd, 2024 – The highly anticipated JKUAT Hockey Tournament is set to make a comeback this weekend at the university’s hockey field. The last edition of the tournament was held in 2021, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has not been held for the past three years.
According to the tournament organizers, the event is scheduled to start at 9 AM on Saturday, June 3rd, and will feature both men’s and women’s categories. The organizers were expecting a total of 10 ladies’ teams and 16 men’s teams to participate in the tournament.
As of now, the organizers have confirmed the participation of several teams for both the men’s and women’s categories.
In the men’s category, the confirmed teams are:
- JKUAT Wildcats
- Park Road A
- Park Road B
- Parklands
- Kenyatta University
- Kirinyaga Knights
- Sokwe Hockey Club
- Black Tigers
- MKU
- Thika Rovers
- Daystar
- Stingers
- Wazalendo (Super League)
In the women’s category, the confirmed teams are:
- JKUAT Wildcats
- Kenyatta University
- Twinkle
- Black Tigress
- MKU
- Daystar
- Amira
- Wazalendo Pearls
The organizers have also stated that they have tentative fixtures prepared for the confirmed teams and are still open to accommodating additional teams should they confirm their participation.
The last edition of the JKUAT Hockey Tournament in 2021 saw Sailors emerge victorious in the men’s category, while Kenyatta University claimed the title in the women’s category. The upcoming tournament promises to be an exciting event, with teams eager to showcase their skills and fight for the coveted championship titles.
