JKUAT Ladies and Wazito are the winners of the inaugural tournament of the 2023 Mount Kenya University (MKU) tournament. The two teams emerged top after playing against 16 men teams and 8 ladies team at at General Kago Primary School and Thika High School.
Men’s Competition
In the quarter finals, JKUAT were beaten by Omusula 2-0 in Penalty shootouts after drawing 0-0. In the 2nd quarter, Team 4 defeated Wozza Wozza 2-0 in Penalty shootouts after a goalless draw. The 3rd quarter had Stunya Mafia and USIU-A. USIU-A defeated them 3-0 in Penalty shootouts after the match ended 0-0.
In the semifinals, Omusula were defeated by Wazito 4-3 in shootout after drawing 0-0. In the other semi, USIU-A were defeated by their their fellow comrades Team 4 (USIU Team B), 2-1.
In the finals, Wazito beat Team 4, 2-0 in the shootout after a goalless draw. Omusula went ahead to defeat USIU-A 2-1 for the 3rd slot.
Ladies Competition
In the ladies semifinals, JKUAT defeated Team Sherehe 1-0 in penalty shootout after drawing 1-1. In the second semi, USIU-A defeated Titans 2-0. In the finals JKUAT beat USIU-A in the shootouts 2-1 after a 1-1 drawn in fulltime.
Number 3 spot for the ladies went to Team sherehe after they beat Titans 2-1 in shootouts after drawing 1-1.
Lynn Mwangi of USIU-A and Ian Alusa were awarded the Most Valuable Players of the tournament.
