MCHA Hosts Successful Hockey Umpiring Course, Certifying 19 New Umpires and Providing Refresher for 6 Existing Officials.

The MCHA hosted of a 2-day hockey umpiring course on June 1st and 2nd, 2024. The course was open to all individuals who were aspiring to become hockey umpires, whether in a personal capacity or representing an institution.

The participation fee for the entire 2-day course was set at KES. 3,000 per person. However, the MCHA offered a special discounted rate of KES. 1,000 per person for MCHA technical officials and umpires who wanted to attend the course as a refresher before the start of the new season.

A total of 19 new aspiring umpires signed up and attended the comprehensive training program. In addition, 6 existing MCHA umpires took advantage of the refresher opportunity.

The hockey umpiring course was conducted by an experienced team of facilitators from the MCHA. This included Moses Otieno, the MCHA Umpires Manager, Peter Obalo who is the Secretary of the Kenya Hockey Umpires Association (KHUA), and Oliver Mascarenhas who assisted them.

Upon successful completion of the 2-day course, all participants were awarded certificates from the MCHA, recognizing their achievement in becoming certified hockey umpires. This was an important step in expanding the pool of qualified officials to support the growing hockey ecosystem in Mombasa County.

The MCHA was encouraged by the strong turnout and enthusiasm displayed by the participants. This course was expected to help supply a fresh crop of competent umpires ahead of the new hockey season, ensuring the continued development and smooth running of hockey matches in the region.
