Moshi Khalsa lifts 12 edition of Nyerere Hockey Tournament.

Moshi Khalsa lifted the trophy for the 12 edition of Nyerere Hockey Tournament. In the finals, the game started on a fast pace with TPDF opening the scoreboard in the 19th min through their Stricker Eliase Samala whereby Moshi Khalsa had a upper ground to win the game due to home ground and crowd support which made them to equalise in the 30th min through their dependant Stricker Mussa Edward.

Both teams displayed classic stick work which kept the entire public on their toes throughout the game. In the 3rd quarter, Abdallah Jabir of TPDF scored the 2nd goal whereas Moshi Khalsa sensing the danger increased their efforts at the opponent’s goal which paid off in the 51st min through Musa Edward which made the score board to read 2 – 2 till the last min of the game.

Both teams entered into penalty stroke competition whereby they still managed to go draw 5 -5. Again, sudden death penalty was awarded to both teams which saw Moshi Khalsa managed to score 3 goals against 2 of TPDF. Overall total scores including field / penalty goals were 10 – 9 in favour of Moshi khalsa.

The District Commissioner of Hai, respected Amiri Mkalipa was the chief guest who had represented the Regional Commissioner of Moshi. The chief guest inspected the both teams during the final and also gave out the prestigious awards to winning and runners up teams. He also appreciated the organising committee and the sponsors in his brief speech.

In this tournament, notable & applauble performance was seen of Tanga Stars who gave very tough challenge to strong teams such as Moshi Khalsa and TPDF till the last minute of their crucial games in their strong pool and not forgetting Zanzibar team nyuki who have also shown good performance and are also gradually climbing up.
