The Kakamega County Hockey Association an affiliate body of the Kenya Hockey Union held its inaugural tournament dubbed Mulembe Hockey Tournament on the 5th and 6th of February. The tournament attracted a total of ten men and six ladies’ teams.
The men’s teams included: Western Jaguars, Kenya Police, Wazalendo, UoN, Nandi Hawks, Blue Pirates, MMUST, Maseno, Eregi TTC, and Musingu High School.
The ladies’ teams included: Lakers HC, UoN, MMUST, Maseno, Nyamira Girls, and Eregi Girls.
The two-day tournament was full of exciting matches as each team showed its worth.
In the men’s category, co-hosts Western Jaguars lifted the title. jaguars beat the Kenya representatives to the Africa Cup of Club Champions Wazalendo by 2 goals to 1 to lift the title and condemn Wazalendo to the silver medal. Kenya Police on the other hand beat varsity side UoN to take the bronze.
in the women category, the Lakers Hockey Club from Kisumu beat the University of Nairobi to take the title while fast-rising Nyamira Girls beat MMUST ladies in the playoff to take the trophy home.
The winners and runners up in the men’s category got Ksh 100,000 and Ksh 40,000 respectively. The ladies winners took home Ksh 70,000
