Police beat USIU 1-0 narrowing the gap with League Leaders Butali.

Kenya Police this evening beat USIU Makwapa 1-0 to move to the top 3 with only a point shy from the current league leaders and defending champions Butali Warriors. Both teams had their fair chances of getting the 3 points and the men in blue took advantage of experienced players like Brian Saina, Police carried the day.

Quarter 1

After both teams seized each other for 13 minutes with a 50-50 ball possession, 2 min to the end of Quarter 1, USIU forward, Lawrence Makhatsa missed the goal by a few inches. 

Quarter 2

Makwapa dominated the 2nd Quarter staying on Police’s 25-yard line. 4 min into the Quarter, Brian Kipkorir of USIU missed a backhand hitting the ball up in the air. Police got a counter but Titus Kimutai failed to stop which led to the umpire of the match Tony Fernandez calling for a 16 in favor of Makwapa. 

James Mwangi of USIU with 6 min to go had a one-on-one with the Police netminder, Joshua Omondi but hit the ball out. 

10 seconds to the halftime hoot, Police got a counter after USIU missed and Moses Cheplait was passed the ball from the halfway line by Captain Victor Wekesa and missed the ball and was comfortably taken by the Makwapa’s defense. 

Quarter 3

Police defense was put under immense pressure by USIU strikers just 3 min into the 3rd Quarter. With 6 min to go Police got their 1st Penalty Corner which was stopped well by Richard Birir but Andrew memo missed swinging his stick. Police pick up the pace and desperately looked to get the ball past Makwapa’s goal also but missed several chances. 

Quarter 4

3 min into the 4th quarter, Police raids bore fruits when Brian Saina dribbled with the ball from halftime to the D and passed the ball to Govan Mbeki who passed to Titus Kimutai who tapped it in. 

Kenya Police now have 10 points and have moved from 5th position to position 2.
