A different year, a bigger mission, as the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) begins Elite Youth Development Program (EYDP) with its National Youth Camp scheduled to take place from 9th– 18th January 2023 in Kajiado County at Merishaw School – Isinya. KHU Secretary General, Wycliffe Ongori confirmed 12 lads would be representing hockey in this camp.
The 10-day camp led by the NOC-K Youth Commission will see close to 200 athletes from 22 Federations come together for an intense program to learn new skills, work together as Team Kenya, and meet other players and new coaches.
The youth camps are designed not only for technical training but also for life skills. Therefore education sessions are scheduled in the program including Olympic Values Education, media training, team building, and the like. The Elite Performance Commission will also ensure the camp has expertise in sports science.
“We are excited to start the year high-flying with one of our crown priorities- the Youth. We have requested federations to ensure athletes joining the camp be of ages 14 to 18 years as of 1st August 2023, must be top athletes in their respective sport, and must have participated in
County, National, Regional & International Games.” Said David Ngugi, Chairman Youth Commission.
“This camp will also be an opportunity for the youth coaches under the Youth Development Coaches Program to expand their knowledge and experience towards the Youth Olympics.” He added. The coaches will be taken through a series of workshops before the camp on working with youth athletes.
This is the third edition of the Youth Camp with the first edition in 2019 at Lukenya Academy in Machakos County and the second edition in 2022, at Kenyatta University, Ruiru.
