Upsets, Celebration, and Sharing of Spoils as KHU League Resumes.

A beautiful day it has been. Hockey enthusiasts in various parts of the country have had entertaining matches across the leagues where upsets were witnessed. 

From the Capital through Gusii land up to the Mulembe nation, tight matches were on the cards. In the men’s National League, visiting UoE bagged maximum points from Kisii where they edged out Kisii Falcons by 2 straight goals. Maiz Onyango and Kennedy Juma were on the score sheet to ensure the Eldoret-based University lads went home all smiles. In another much-anticipated match in the region, Bramwel Lijoodi-led side Blue Pirates under the Goldstein Hockey Foundation umbrella bagged maximum points after trampling Bungoma-based Bungoma Farmers by 3 goals to nil. Brawel Shisoka netted a brace while William Dulo ensured his name is inscribed in the goal scorers. “We were well-prepared and confident today. 

Struggling Thika Rovers’ woes continued in the hands of Clayson Luvanda’s University of Nairobi. George Wekesa netted a brace while Cecil Asuma and Hosea Wekesa scored each goal. Daystar Falcons on the other hand drew against Gorillas. Each of the sides got past the other’s custodian 3 times. Glen, Lucky Iraya, and Anderson Clyde were on target for Daystar while Ian Samba, David Onaka, and Kevin Adamba were on target for Gorillas. 

In the women’s Super League, League favorites Kenyatta University made their intentions of being promoted clear when they trounced Vikings by 3 goals to none. Miriam Mwangi, Monica Kitui, and Brenda Gikundi were on the score sheet for the varsity girls. In the men’s Super League, Parkroad Tigers were held to a 2-all draw when they hosted TUK Saturday afternoon. Gilbert Lang’at netted a brace for Parkroad while Graham Otieno and Deo Odhiambo scored for TUK. 

In the ladies’ top-tier league, USIU-A was held to a 1-all draw at City Park. Perel Akinyi was on target for USIU while Leah Omwadho got the ball behind the net for the Sailors. 

On the men’s side, USIU-A was held to a 2-2 draw against the fast-rising DTE Western Jaguars. USIU came from 2 goals down to score 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of the high-paced match Job Wanders and ‘speedster’ Bethuel Masambu were on target for Wester Jaguars while Jamleck Maina and Wayne Chong’oni were there to respond and ensure a point each.
