Wananchi Sports Club ladies and men teams on Sunday 13th March 2022 won the inaugural Memorial Shield tournament held at Lugogo Stadium.
Ladies Match
Wananchi women’s side beat DCU 1-0 in the opening match of the tournament.
Norah Alum’s field goal in the 30th minute of the game was enough to earn the all-important goal they needed.

Men’s Game
Wananchi men’s side came from three goals down to level scores at the brink of normal time and beat Weatherhead 3-2 on penalties.
Weatherhead started the match on a high scoring in the 6th, 12th, and 27th minute of the game.
The goals were scored by Mugisha Maxwell, Kiyemba Raid, and Alfred Agaba.
The tide of the game changed in the 38th minute when Christopher Angulu pulled one back for Wananchi.
Veteran Innocent Raskara later scored Wananchi’s second goal in the 47th minute to set the fan base on a song.
Youngster Jordan Achaye leveled the score with one minute to play.
Focus now shifts to the league which starts on 19th March 2022
