Technical Panel Announced for Inaugural 2024 Indoor Africa Cup in Namibia.

Hockey Africa has released the names of officials who will serve on the technical panel for the first-ever Indoor Africa Cup (IAC) taking place in Swakopmund, Namibia in May 2024.

Tournament Directors and Managers

Mr. Ahmed Azmy of Hockey Africa will oversee proceedings as the continental body’s representative. South Africa’s Robyn Morgan was appointed as Tournament Director. Sven Mulder of South Africa will manage the umpires.

International and Domestic Technical Officers

The technical officials panel includes Johann Weyhe (NAM), Thapelo Motloutse (RSA), Gavin Costas (ZIM), Linda Honiball (NAM), Unaswi Matebu (BOT), and Tafadzwa Makamure (ZIM).

Neutral and National Umpires

Two neutral umpires – Mark Becholz (NED) and Ana Ortega (ESP) – were selected. National umpires named are Siyabonga Martins (NAM), Ayden Shrives (RSA), Tawedzegwa Chadenga (ZIM), Fenestha Pienaar (NAM), Claire Cowan (RSA), and Sharne Mayers (ZIM).

Medical Support

Vernon Mark Morkel of Namibia will serve as the tournament’s medical officer, ensuring player welfare is prioritized.

The 2024 IAC serves as the qualifier for the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup in Croatia, making it a crucial event for African nations to boost their indoor programs. Hockey Africa’s appointment of experienced officials bodes well for a successful inaugural competition.
