Wazalendo Hockey Club launch a Ladies side called Waza Pearls.

Wazalendo Hockey Club has launched a ladies team called Waza Pearls. As one of the oldest hockey clubs, it has been setting pace and so it has wanted to have a ladies team for so long. Having been involved in their Young Player Development program as a way of giving back to the community, the management saw an opportunity to mentor young women in the sport, as a former National Team Captain . Most young girls from the Youth Performance Development used to join other teams, and sadly there was no follow up beyond campus level. Wazalendo was happy to start the project again, and many months later…here they are with the Pearls.

Over the weekend they were launched during the Mombasa County Hockey Association that was held in Mombasa on the 20th to 21st October 2023. NCBA came in to help in launching the team, facilitate all plans to ensure successful start. They supported them with 1.7 million shillings towards the club. The pearls are working for a long term partnership with NCBA, in achieving sustainability agendas mainly being community engagement.

Fidhelis Kimanzi, will be the coach for the squad and Rhoda Kuira is the captain at the moment for the side. They become the 20th ladies club to join the Kenya Hockey Union League hopefully next year.
